Measured By Character talks to the students in a 2 hour assembly. Wade tells the story of the loss of his son who had just turned 18 and was about to graduate. He walks through the pain of tragically losing Ryan White and how none of us are promised tomorrow. They see news footage from Ryan’s friends and the impact stories he made on them. We see an instant connection with your school as they have all lost someone and connect with Ryan because he was their age.
Wade tells them they have impact and are unique. He gives them real life examples of why they each have meaning. He tells a story that leads into discussing bullying & social bullying and the ripple effect they each have with every choice they make. They have a Responsibility and Accountability to each action. How you are writing your own obituary every day. You are writing your legacy today and everyday.
Then the Change of Direction…
It’s never to late to do the right thing. If there is someone in the room you have harmed in some way now is the time to make a change. Go introduce yourself to somebody new. They move sides, sit by new people.
There is a shift.. and a heart change that happens in every single school.
Wade then goes into character and how important it is.
They are engaged while he finishes the message with giving them the realization that change has to happen within themselves.
We ask, “who is sick of it? Who will ask for help, who will take a stand for character and make a change?”
One by one they stand, clap, sing to the song playing and walk down to sign the banner that goes to your school & hangs there with the signatures of the kids making a stand of good.
We give the kids the opportunity to talk with counselors and connect them with resources through partnerships.

The change is the school atmosphere is then different. That’s our favorite part!
